The Commission on the 30th Anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and German Reunification has identified some special milestones from among the many important dates and events of the years 1989 and 1990. These dates are meant to commemorate in various ways the courage and dedication of people in the GDR, as well as key decisions and achievements in the transformation process, the reconstruction of eastern Germany and the process of Germany growing closer together.
The Commission chose the following milestones:
Germany marks thirty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall
Germany marks thirty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall
The years 2019 and 2020 mark the 30th anniversaries of the peaceful revolution (the developments leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall) and German reunification. The anniversaries are being celebrated with events aimed at bringing all of Germany together. Historical milestones along the path to unity are to be commemorated. That is why the Federal Government has set up a Commission to offer recommendations for a broad range of anniversary events. Its 22 members are drawn from the spheres of politics, business, art, culture, media and civil society. Encounters and dialogues between twin towns in eastern and western Germany are at the heart of the planned events.
